Artist Academic Portfolio - Client Case Study

Building a Tenure Track Artist Portfolio

Dallas-based artist and academic, Bryan reached out to me for a website design that would put his artwork on display.

Not only did he need a home on the web, but he also needed a live portfolio that would share his exhibition history, CV, and gallery representation for his upcoming Tenure Track review.

Phase 1: Website Objectives + Strategy:

We sat down via Zoom to understand challenges, goals, important metrics, and what areas mattered the most. For Bryan just having a presence on the internet and not feeling left out when asked for his website was key.

Website objectives:

  • Create a simple and minimal portfolio website

  • Let the artist’s images shine without a lot of text distractions

  • Create a rich user experience + Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

  • Implement a simple and effective e-commerce system

  • Setup Facebook/Instagram Business pages with Squarespace Shop Integration

  • Custom Google My Business listing

  • Increase online sales + repeat customers

  • Utilize customer testimonials and reviews

Phase 2: Website design:

The design stage for this website was simple and accommodating. Using text/font as a logo and simple to read body fonts, we got to work on adding the captivating images that the artist provided.

Phase 3: Squarespace Design + Launch:

For any creative, artist or academic, Squarespace is by far the best platform I have worked on. It’s the gold standard. Period. Easy to learn, super flexible, connecting third-party apps is a breeze, complete code control, drag and drop design blocks, speedy backend operations… it’s fluid and easy - a web developer’s dream! Plus it adds a sense of ease for my clients with an almost Apple-like feel.

For Bryan the design and development was easy peasy with a handful of coding tricks that made the design shine.

It was truly a joy to work with Bryan. Seriously!

Here’s what he had to say about the project:

“Everything is carefully explained upfront and questions were patiently answered throughout the process. Requests for changes were honored in a timely manner. The layout looks great and navigation is clear and easy. I could not have created this site on my own, at least not without many months of work. Even then I don’t think I would’ve been near as satisfied with the result. Definitely worth the investment!”
